Violation Status

Also known as: ticket status, violation state, case status

What is a Violation Status?

Violation status is the current state of a violation as recorded in the city's adjudication system. NYC uses different status labels across DOF and OATH, but they map to common stages: Unpaid (fine owed, no hearing), Hearing Pending (hearing scheduled), In Judgment (civil judgment entered), Paid ($0 balance), and Dismissed (not guilty or withdrawn).

Status matters because it determines what actions are available and what risks apply. An "Unpaid" violation can still be contested. A "Hearing Pending" violation is in the queue. An "In Judgment" violation contributes to boot eligibility. A "Paid" violation is resolved. Understanding status at a glance is essential for fleet operators managing hundreds of violations simultaneously.

Different city systems use different terminology — DOF might say "HEARING REQUESTED" while OATH says "PENDING." Clear Plates normalizes all statuses into a unified system so every violation across DOF, OATH, and BIC uses consistent labels, making it easy to filter, sort, and prioritize your fleet's violation portfolio.
