FLEET MANAGEMENT
Vehicle Limit
Also known as: fleet size limit, plan vehicle cap, vehicle cap
What is a Vehicle Limit?
The vehicle limit is the maximum number of active vehicles that can be monitored under a given subscription tier. When the active vehicle count reaches this limit, new vehicles cannot be added until existing vehicles are deactivated (by setting an end date) or the plan is upgraded to a higher tier.
Default limits by tier: Starter allows 50, Pro allows 150, and Premium allows 300 active vehicles. Only active vehicles (end date is null or in the future) count toward the limit — inactive vehicles with past end dates do not. This means a fleet can have 200 total vehicles in the system but only 45 active, fitting within the Starter limit.
For DSPs and operators with non-standard fleet sizes, Clear Plates supports a per-organization vehicle limit override set by the admin team. This allows a Starter-plan DSP to have, for example, a 200-vehicle override if their fleet size warrants it. Clear Plates displays the current vehicle count and plan limit on the Vehicles page and blocks additions when the limit is reached, with a clear prompt to upgrade.
