FLEET MANAGEMENT

Active Vehicle

Also known as: in-service vehicle, current vehicle

What is an Active Vehicle?

An active vehicle is a fleet vehicle that is currently in service — meaning it has no end date, or its end date is today or in the future. Active vehicles are the ones your fleet is currently operating, and they count toward your subscription plan's vehicle limit (e.g., 50 for Starter, 150 for Pro, 300 for Premium).

Active vehicles receive full monitoring: they are included in nightly auto-scans, their violations appear on your dashboard, and they are factored into fleet-wide risk calculations like boot exposure and aging violations. When a vehicle transitions from active to inactive (its end date passes), it continues to be scanned for historical violations but no longer counts against your plan limit.

For fleet operators, the active vehicle count is the key metric for subscription sizing. If you operate 60 vehicles but only 45 are active at any given time (the rest are between rentals), you may fit within a Starter plan. Clear Plates calculates your active vehicle count in real time and warns you when you're approaching your plan's limit so you can upgrade or deactivate vehicles as needed.
