Vehicle Roster

Also known as: fleet roster, vehicle list, vehicle inventory

What is a Vehicle Roster?

A vehicle roster is the complete inventory of vehicles registered in a fleet management account. Each vehicle entry includes the license plate number, state of registration, license type (e.g., COM, PAS), and optionally a start date and end date defining the liability window.

The roster serves as the foundation for all fleet violation management — Clear Plates scans every vehicle on the roster during nightly auto-scans, checking NYC Open Data for new parking, camera, OATH, and BIC violations. Adding a vehicle to the roster is the first step to monitoring it; removing it (or setting an end date) stops active monitoring while preserving historical violation data.

For fleet operators, maintaining an accurate roster is critical. A missing vehicle means its violations go undetected. An outdated roster with vehicles you no longer operate wastes scan resources and clutters your dashboard. Clear Plates distinguishes between active vehicles (currently in service, counting toward your plan limit) and inactive vehicles (past their end date, still scanned for historical violations but not counting against your limit).
