Renter Company

Also known as: lessee company, leasing client, rental operator

What is a Renter Company?

A renter company is a business that leases vehicles from a fleet owner for commercial operations. In the Clear Plates ecosystem, renter companies are the entities that receive violation bills through the renter portal. Each renter company is linked to specific vehicles and rental periods, and violations during those periods are attributed to them.

Common renter company types include Amazon DSPs, last-mile delivery operators, logistics companies, and transportation providers. A single fleet owner might have 10–50 renter companies leasing vehicles at any given time, each with their own portal link, violation history, and payment record.

Fleet owners manage renter companies through the Renters tab in the dashboard, where they can add new renters, import renters via CSV, assign vehicles to rental periods, and track payment status. Violations are matched to renter companies automatically based on the vehicle's renter_company_id and rental window dates. Clear Plates supports an approval workflow where fleet owners can review matched violations before pushing them to the renter portal, or enable auto-push for trusted renters.
