FLEET MANAGEMENT
Rental Fleet
Also known as: leased fleet, rental vehicle fleet
What is a Rental Fleet?
A rental fleet is a group of vehicles that are leased to operators (such as Amazon DSPs or last-mile delivery companies) rather than owned by them directly. In the rental fleet model, a fleet owner purchases and registers the vehicles, then leases them to operators for defined periods — typically 30 days to 12 months.
Rental fleet violation management is more complex than owned-fleet management because liability must be attributed to the correct party based on timing. A violation issued on March 15 might belong to DSP Alpha (renting Feb 1–Mar 10) or DSP Beta (renting Mar 11–Apr 10), depending on who had the vehicle that day. If the violation falls during a gap between rentals, it remains the fleet owner's responsibility.
Rental fleets also deal with higher turnover — vehicles cycle through multiple operators, each with different drivers and different violation patterns. Tracking who owes what becomes a full-time job without automation. Clear Plates was built specifically for this complexity, using start and end dates per vehicle to automatically match violations to the correct lessee and driver.
