Parking Ticket Amnesty

Also known as: NYC amnesty, parking amnesty program, DOF ticket amnesty

What is a Parking Ticket Amnesty?

A parking ticket amnesty is a temporary program offered by the NYC Department of Finance that forgives accrued interest and a portion of the late penalties on old parking and camera tickets — provided the underlying fine is paid in full during the amnesty window. Amnesty programs have historically been run every several years (notable cycles include 2016 and 2023), and they are one of the few ways to reduce the total cost of old, in-judgment tickets without going through a hearing.

Amnesty terms typically apply only to tickets issued before a specific cutoff date, exclude certain violation types (often commercial violations or safety-critical categories), and require the balance to be paid in full or via a payment plan opened during the program.

For fleet operators, amnesty programs are one of the highest-ROI uses of cash — a $115 base fine that has escalated to $350 in judgment may settle for the original $115 during an amnesty window. Clear Plates surfaces every outstanding violation by vehicle so fleet managers can quickly identify amnesty-eligible tickets and act before the window closes.
