FLEET MANAGEMENT
Aging Violation
Also known as: aging ticket, expiring violation, approaching deadline
What is an Aging Violation?
An aging violation is an unpaid ticket that is approaching its next penalty escalation milestone or civil judgment entry deadline. Violations "age" through a predictable schedule — each day closer to the next penalty stage means a higher eventual cost if the ticket goes unpaid.
For parking violations, the aging milestones are approximately: 30 days (+$10 penalty), 60 days (+$30 penalty), 75 days (+$60 penalty), and 90 days (judgment entry). For camera violations, the milestones are compressed: 30 days (+$25), 60 days (+$50), and 75 days (judgment). An OATH violation has its own deadline — typically 30 days to respond before a default judgment with penalties up to 5x the original fine.
Fleet operators should prioritize aging violations based on how close they are to the next milestone. A ticket at 25 days old is 5 days from its first penalty — paying now saves $10–$25. A ticket at 70 days is days from judgment, and the savings from immediate action are even larger. Clear Plates tracks aging status for every violation and flags tickets approaching each milestone with color-coded urgency indicators.
